Dispense As Written: Ambassador Spotlight – Dr. Yanet Adere

Featured PILs Ambassador:

Yanet Adere, PharmD
Pharmaceutical Industry Pharmacy Specialist

Who/what inspired you to pursue pharmacy?

I originally chose to pursue a career in pharmacy due to my passion to improve health outcomes by increasing patients’ access to appropriate medications and to help combat the distribution of counterfeit medications in my native country, Ethiopia.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your area of pharmacy practice?

One of the most rewarding aspects of a career in Medical Affairs (MA) is the ability to utilize scientific evidense and stakeholder relationships to ultimately understand and serve our patients.

At what moment did you realize you were a real pharmacist?

The moment my family (near and far) and friends started referring to me for all their medication-related questions and concerns.

Which prominent figure, past or present, leadership style do you admire and why?

I have admired Michelle Obama’s leadership style, but was moved by her character when I read her book.  She embodies a fearless yet servant leadership style through not only the way she leads her family, but in fashion, fitness, and various initiatives that empower underserved communities and women.

What particular aspect of your field/specialization do you foresee drastically changing in the next 5 years?

Medical Affairs has changed dramatically over the last decade from being a support functional area to one that serves as a bridge between the medical community, patients, and the pharmaceutical industry.  Now, COVID-19 has moved the majority of MA interactions to virtual settings.  I foresee this change as more than a temporary adjustment, but one that will influence the way MA professionals interact moving forward.
